As the seasons change and the air gets colder, we get closer to Halloween, one of the best times of the year. Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays because of everything fun you can do during this time. One of my favorite things to do to get in the spirit is watch scary movies, so to help you also get in the spirit here is a list of my top 10 favorite scary movies (scariest at 1 and least scary at 10):
- Exorcist- this movie is seen as the “scariest movie of all time” according to 100 Scariest Movies of All Time and to be completely honest when I first watched this movie it scared me and made me have nightmares for days
- The Conjuring (first movie)- This movie has been known for a very long time and is one of the most popular cases heard of from Ed and Lorraine Warren. This movie was one of the first scary movies I had ever seen so it will always stay at the top of my list. It has a good plot and many jumpscares or things you didn’t expect. I loved this movie and still do to this day.
- Insidious – This is another one of the first horror movies I’ve ever watched. This movie has a really good story to it although it was confusing at first but as you continue watching it, it gets better and more interesting. I feel the same for the rest of the insidious movies but the first one will always be my favorite.
- Evil Dead – This movie was definitely interesting. It was not what I expected at all but was overall very cool and creepy and it is one of those movies I don’t think I could ever get tired of.
- Paranormal Activity – I absolutely loved all of the paranormal activity movies, they were interesting, had a good plot, and somewhat scared me at first, even though they are confusing if you don’t watch them in order or one after another.
- Hereditary – Again, this is another movie that I didn’t know what to expect from. There were a lot of twists and turns and at first, I kinda felt thrown around and to this day this movie kind of still confuses me. Other than that, I do think it is an interesting and scary movie but I wouldn’t rate it any higher than this.
- The Visit – This movie was good and weird in a way but it wasn’t that scary to me, it was more of a thriller and was kind of disturbing. If I’m being honest I haven’t watched it in a while just because it’s not one of those movies that you can watch without getting tired of.
- Halloween – Like the one before, this was good but I think I’ve only watched it once just because this one did not scare me at all. It had a good plot. The only thing is it’s not something I’d watch to try and make myself scared but it has been a while so maybe I’ll watch it again this year.
- The Babadook – I personally didn’t like this movie that much, it was not scary, it was more weird. I liked that it showed a connection between this “monster/demon” and the mother’s mental health but that was about the only thing that really stood out to me.
- Scary movie (series) – I liked these movies but they aren’t really scary. These are more comedic horror movies, all of them being parodies of actual scary movies but they are still nice to watch when you want a good laugh during Halloween time, especially after watching an actual scary movie.
Well there you go, my top scary movie suggestions. If you haven’t seen any of these or even a couple of them I would definitely recommend watching them to get in the spooky spirit. Have a good Halloween and stay safe out there!
