With her first album ever released, we begin with “Don’t smile at me” released in 2017 with 9 songs when Billie was around the age of 16. This album explores youth, love, heartbreak, and identity going through the complications of relationships and self-confidence. Certain songs like Idontwannabeyouanymore which according to Thoughtful Messages weaved into Billie Eilish’s songs tell a story – METEOMEDIA, “Billie tells herself “idontwannabeyouanymore”, sparked by the turmoil she experiences from dealing with all of the things she doesn’t like about herself,” and “My Boy”, talking about the struggles of being in a one-sided relationship with a lack of communication. This album goes through so many feelings that relate to the struggles of many around the world.
Her next album, “WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP WHERE DO WE GO?”, released in 2019, which earned her 5 Grammys, dives into the aspects of mental health, anxiety, dreams, and self-awareness. Many of her songs, according to Modern Classic: Billie Eilish ‘When We All Fall Asleep Where Do We Go?’ show that “The lyrics seem to be partly about the music industry along with her depression which she has been singing about for years.” Throughout the album, Billie sings about issues with anxiety, depression, and the fear of the unknown. Songs like “Bury a Friend” show the dark thoughts coming from nightmares Billie actually struggled with while songs like “Listen Before I Go” talk about feelings of isolation and the desire to escape life itself. The album itself touches on the struggles of growing up and trying to learn who you are in a world full of expectations and pressure.
Next up we have Happier Than Ever, one of Billie’s most popular albums is one “that’s no longer concerned with imaginary monsters, but real life ones lurking around every corner: the stalkers prowling outside her door, abusers taking advantage of young girls, the nondisclosure agreements strangulating every potential relationship, and the weight of a million eyes watching your every move.” This album shows the toll that fame has had on Billie over the years and goes deeper into her struggles in relationships with songs like “happier than ever.”

Her most recent album is the one everyone has lost their mind over. ‘HIT ME HARD AND SOFT’ is an album showing a different side of Billie that many haven’t seen before. Going through the struggles of depression, self-hatred and body image issues with many songs such as “SKINNY” and “BLUE” showing the struggles she has been through and to this day are still working through. Having to deal with stalkers and always being watched, Billie has songs like “THE DINER” showing the scary experiences she has to go through as a public figure. One of her most relatable issues to others is her struggle with heartbreak and how she gets through it with songs like “L’AMOUR DE MA VIE” showing her mindset after a harsh breakup and the process of moving on while also having to watch the ‘love of her life’ move on with someone else, this album is just another one of her many hits.
By being true to herself and being so open Billie has helped many fans embrace who they are as a person. Her honesty about mental health and her lack of care for the “normal beauty standards” have made so many people today feel seen and understood. Her influence has gone past just beyond her songs, she’s encouraged others to be who they are, stay authentic, and feel comfortable in their own skin the way she learned to be.
