Fall is upon us which can only mean one thing, POSTSEASON BASEBALL, the postseason has been underway since the beginning of October and it has all come down to this. The red-hot Arizona Diamondbacks are up against the heavy-hitting Texas Rangers. Looking at this matchup from the beginning of the season it was very unlikely but anything can happen during the postseason.
The D-Backs come into this series after sweeping both the Brewers and Dodgers and going into a very long and highly regarded series against the Phillies that went to 7 games in the D-Backs’ favor. The Rangers had the same road as the D-backs sweeping the wildcard round against the Rays and sweeping the Orioles in the ALDS then going to 7 games with the Astros. Even though neither of these teams was supposed to be here they are and this is the matchup set for us.
Starting in game one the D-Backs got off to a very hot start putting up three runs in the 2nd inning. But when the game was on the line the D-Backs let up, they gave up a huge home run to the Ranges star shortstop Corey Seager who tied the game up in the bottom of the 9th. Then coming up in the bottom of the 11th with a tie game at 5-5 the Ranger’s best hitter Adolis Garcia comes up and hits a game-winning walk-off home run for the Ranger to take game one of the World Series.
Game 2 of the series was a change but didn’t start the way it ended, it was a pitching duel going back and forth until the D-Backs offense started to heat up and there was no sign of them slowing down. The Game quickly became out of control and the D-Backs took Game 2 of the Word Series with a score of 9-1.
After a day off Game 3 of the World Series kicked off in sunny Phoenix, Arizona at Chase Field. The D-Backs were hoping that home-field advantage could lead them to victory, this ended very quickly after the Rangers scored three runs in the 3rd, after that the D-Backs tried to claw their way back but ended up losing the game 3-1.
Going into game four everyone was leaning towards the D-Backs being both teams were pitching a bullpen game and the D-Backs had the stronger bullpen but in the end, this wasn’t the case. The Rangers put up a 5-spot in both the second and third inning and the D-Backs tried to crawl back in the end but ultimately lost the game 11-7.
In what could be the last game of the season both teams were feeling confident in a win being both of their aces were on the mound, with this in mind the D-Backs knew they had to win this game to continue their season in hopes of being MLB champs. The D-Backs continuously got runners on base and in scoring position but couldn’t bring them in to score so finally the Rangers took advantage of this and put up a run in the seventh and four in the ninth leading to them being crowned champions at last. With both these teams defying odds all season it was a great series but in the end, the D-Backs were no match for the powerhouse Texas Rangers.
