The Agua Fria girls’ soccer team has not been the luckiest this season with a standing score of 0-3. Not winning a single game in the season so far would cause stress on a team, but the girls have once again shown that no matter the losses they are still persevering and putting in their all when it comes to sport.
On Wednesday night December 6th Agua Fria went up against Thunderbird who had a season score of 1-4. It was a tough game, to say the least with the Varsity girls putting in their all in the hope of having this be their first winning goal. The first half started out strong with the girl scoring a total of two goals, one being scored by Macklyn Weeg (#13) with an assist from Aniesa Garcia (#14). The first half of the game ended with Thunderbird in the lead with a total of four goals putting themselves two goals ahead of Agua Fria.
The girls take a minute to regroup up and come up with a game plan to end the game on a high. The second half of the game was spent fighting the Thunderbirds for the ball and pushing themselves to the max to get any goals they could. The girls would only end up scoring one goal that period and Thunderbird would end up scoring three more goals ending the game with a score of 7-3. As Thunderbird would go home as winners, girls varsity would still hold their heads up high, telling each other that even though they lost they still did great putting in all their effort for the team.
Meeting with Aniesa Garcia after the game she had a few words to say about how the team played that night. Aniesa believed the team had played well, but in the end, there were still things they could work on and improve on. When being asked what could the team specifically improve on she had said “I think stabbing for future games would help us”. There is hope in the second half of the season in Aniesa’s eyes stating “We’re really good so hopefully we do better”. The season may not have started off at the best but the team still has so much more to go. The girls still have a fight left in them and are going to work harder than ever to win their next year.
