In the infamous 2020 mukbang titled, “PANERA BREAD MUKBANG | whiplash and new cycle begins,” weight loss youtuber Amberlynn Reid opens her Panera doordash and proclaims, “*Gasp* They gave me the wrong sandwich, oh no! Turkey with bacon and cheese. I’m really really upset right now”. Such a clip made Reid go viral on the social media app TikTok in 2023. This video sparked so much attention that many people found it unbelievable that an almost 500 pound woman “accidentally” ordered the wrong sandwich. On top of that, many long time viewers of Amberlynn knew that this was of her character, to lie.
Amberlynn Reid has been on YouTube since 2011. She arose as a weight loss YouTuber, her first video being titled “Nervous+Awkward+WeightLoss Vlog,” sharing with her audience that her goal was to document her weight loss journey and to spread awareness on such a topic. However, since that video, she has gained over 200,000 subscribers on YouTube and more than 200 pounds. She has been accused by her audience of being ungrateful, selfish, and egotistical.
Her life story is titled the AmberVerse by long-time viewers, Reid is interwoven in her real-life controversies. For example, in the Autumn of 2016, she accused her first partner of 3 years of being abusive and performing unspeakable acts on her. This in turn, ruined her partner’s life. These claims were made with little to no evidence, evidence actually against Amberlynn’s name, pushing Reid’s fanbase to the large number that it is now.
Likewise, fans have been delving deeper into the relationship with her ex-fiance, trying to uncover the depths of their so-called “toxic” relationship. Ex-partner, now called Beck, proposed to Amberlynn in January of 2021. In February of that same year, she introduced her vlog, “Get Ready With Me- I’M ENGAGED!!!!!,” by saying, “So hello, um, I’m engaged so that is an actual situation”. Many Amberlynn Reid commentator channels like MichealBePetty and Orange Queen remarked how unexcited she was when announcing the news, so fans were not shocked when 5 months later, they were calling off their engagement.
Many fans recall foreseeing this inevitable future between the pair. As in one Q&A video, Reid tells her audience that she was still in love with her ex Destiny for upwards to 1 year when she was dating her partner Beck in 2020, after being with them for 3 years.
Recently, Amberlynn has rekindled her broken relationship with her mother and seems to be living a fruitful life. However, Amberlynn still has a handful of critiques due to her past patterns of lying and deceitful language. Her viewers do not know if she is even capable of telling the truth, as she has used her mental health as an excuse for her unacceptable behavior. Even in 2016, a video titled, “CONFESSING EVERYTHING I’VE LIED ABOUT!!!!!! :(,” Reid goes on to pull out a list of things she has lied about and explain why she lied about them, in great detail. Still, the question begs, is she a victim of her past, or a woman who can’t stop lying to her audience?
