From the moment Yazz Long, logged in as a Freshman at Agua Fria High School during mid pandemic, 2020, she’s been locked in and proceeds to work hard, and lead with courage. Yazz Long also known as “Scooter”, born on June 22, 2006, in Phoenix, AZ Hospital, is a Senior, Class of 2024, she has been attending classes at Agua Fria HS for all four years, “Scooter was probably one of the only students on zoom that produced the most work”, said Ms. Fowler, one of Yazz’s teachers during quarantine. Yet her intentions have not changed, she continues to stay dedicated as well as very intelligent. Scooter is the type of person that can do it all, she has such a positive energy whenever she’s around others, she’s also a great leader, not only when it comes to being on the court but even when it comes to those she doesn’t even know. She’s a positive impact on our future and is destined to be something great. 

Yazz’s experiences in high school have been very diverse, she has done a lot of things to stay active and included here at Agua Fria HS, whether it was NHS, being captain of the girls Varsity Basketball team as well as link crew. There have been challenges that she’s had to face, As a Senior the most challenging thing throughout the year, “Were senior applications for sure”, said Scooter, she explained that if you are a Junior becoming a Senior in high school “Do your college apps as early as possible”. Additionally, Yazz has applied to multiple colleges including NAU, UofA, ASU, NAU Honors, etc… And got accepted into all of those, But “I chose to go to UofA W.A. Frank’s Honors College to study Pharmaceutical Sciences”, said Yazz Long, she also explained that even though her major in college is pharmaceutical sciences, to become a pharmacist, she most definitely also sees herself taking part in coaching basketball, the sport that she loves so dearly. In fact she played basketball her four years in high school, where she made such memorable moments and long lasting connections with teammates and coaches, they weren’t just her team they were family. Jersey Mitchell, a junior at Agua Fria HS, is one of Scooter’s close friends, they met before Jersey’s freshman year in preseason for basketball. What was it like being friends with Scooter, she was asked, “I would say that you always have a smile on your face when you are around her and you can always count on her for advice when you need it”, said Jersey Mitchell. It will be both a very proud and emotional moment once Yazz Long graduates and moves forward onto a new chapter of her life on May 18, 2024. 

Above all, Yazz Long is a wonderful person and those who have gotten the privilege of getting to know this beautiful soul should never take this privilege for granted. She is wise, and hilarious according to peers and mentors, she is a fearless leader, who knows how to make people see her. “Embrace the change in Life” a quote that represents Yazz Long perfectly, though she shouldn’t change who she is for anybody. Some advice for her to take on into college and the rest of her life is “Continue being yourself and never let others diminish your happiness.
