As fall is approaching we have things on the rise. One of those things is college football. Looking back on week 1 it was an exciting one. Today we are going to talk about one game in particular. Wyoming vs. ASU. ASU has a big season ahead of them with all the rumbling in the desert talking about this season showing if Arizona State has a bright future or not within the game of college football. Wyoming coming off of a 9-win season has high hopes to come into this game and claim victory against the Sun Devils.
To start the game off ASU won the coin toss and elected to kick the ball off and receive in the second half. Second play of the game Wyoming quarterback Evan Svoboda set to throw the ball and ended up being picked off by Sun Devil linebacker Zyrus Fiaseu and was taken back to the endzone for a Sun Devil touchdown. ASU was in total control from the start. The next Cowboy possession didn’t end very much better because they gave the ball right back to ASU due to another interception at midfield and ASU went down into the red zone and had to settle with kicking a field goal making the score 10-0. ASU was looking to get the ball back and score for the third straight drive three-yard line which they did, with a Decarlos Brooks running touchdown setting ASU up with a commanding 17-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. ASU and their defense continually stopped Wyoming’s offense causing them to not be able to score. ASU got the ball back and drove it down to the three-yard line, coach Kenny Dillingham made a gutsy call going for it on fourth down but ASU running back Cam Skattebo walked into the endzone scoring yet another touchdown sending ASU up 24-0. Wyoming once again did nothing and ASU took advantage of it kicking another field goal making it 27-0 which would ultimately be held till halftime.
The Sun Devils showed no signs of slowing down after the half scoring yet another touchdown putting them up 34-0. Wyoming got the ball back and once again made an offensive mistake when the quarterback threw a backward lateral pass to his wide receiver in which the wide receiver dropped. ASU scooped the ball up and ran it into the endzone making it a 41-0 ball game sending Mountain America Stadium into an absolute frenzy because of the performance they were seeing from their home team. ASU and their offense had a little bit of positive mojo left and they used it when their wide receiver Kyson Brown caught the ball from their quarterback taking it to the house for a 48-0 ball game with still a whole fourth quarter to play. With one quarter left to play in this blowout game the Wyoming Cowboys were looking for any dignity they could give themselves and they did. They finally drove the ball all the way downfield and they ended up scoring a passing touchdown with two seconds left in the entire ballgame. This led to a final score of 48-7 with a commanding Sun Devil win and it looks to hopefully have a bright season and an even brighter future.
The buzz of this young team and their success has gotten around the desert but the team is just looking up to this week’s game against an SEC opponent Mississippi St. ASU football has never won a game against an SEC opponent and they are looking to accomplish that feat. at Mountain America Stadium this Saturday with a wild crowd ready for a 7:30 kickoff.
