All across the United States of America has had a ginormous lack of school safety. Many incidents have occurred with students bringing dangerous weapons such as guns, knives, chains, brass knuckles, razor blades, and so many others. An uprising issue is contraband being brought to schools, items like weed, alcohol, drugs, and vapes. Another problem is people entering schools pretending to be a part of the student body or faculty. These high-scale problems of inappropriate items being brought to school and random people coming to school create a hazardous environment.
Schools, school districts, and school boards realized action must be taken over this matter., one of those districts being the Agua Fria Union High School district. They decided to add metal detectors for students to go through each morning. The process for students is to take out binders, Chromebooks, metal water bottles or anything metal that could set off a metal detector. Students are also supposed to take out their student IDs, students hand the items to the faculty helping out that morning, then walk through the detectors. If they don’t go off they hand you your stuff back, you will go on to have a good rest of your school day.
If the metal detectors do go off, the helping faculty must place their items and school bag on the table to be thoroughly searched through, and at the same time, the student goes through the metal detector again without their bag. Once you’ve been searched they will say you’re good to go. You’re able to continue to have a wonderful day at school.
This process has helped all the students in the district from Agua Fria High School, Desert Edge High School, Millennium High School, Canyon View High School, and Verrado High School. Even though this process can become time-consuming in the morning, it keeps students, teachers, and faculty safe each school day, all year round!
