Holidays are right around the corner, and so are holiday festivals. Frosty Fest, a winter festival hosted every year here at our school Agua Fria, located in the grass area in front of the Old Gym, for all the community in Avondale by creating and having lots of fun activities during the festival.
This is our sixth year hosting this event and it has always been known for its creative and inventive booth and activity designs. The student council organizes this event by decorating the booths and trying to bring everyone together. What is there to do at each booth? There are many different activities to do while being at the festival, from decorating ornaments to hanging them on your Christmas tree, decorating cookies, and many more activities to interact with.
Frosty Fest was first hosted in 2019. People from the Avondale community are welcome to visit our school to interact and have fun at the festival. Our school also hosts an AFHS Arts Showcase and a dance performance to share with the community the wonderful art and amazing talent our students have created over the semester, aligned with a band performance at the auditorium. Many clubs participate in this festival by having their own booth. Clubs like Early Childhood and Key Club participated in having a booth. Our Early Childhood class did a great job by having an ornament decoration table where kids and parents could spend time decorating an ornament for their tree. I enjoyed making an ornament with my friend and interacted with one of my classmates participating in Early Childhood.
Key Club also had a booth for cookie decorating and a booth for decorating cookies, and other clubs also had creative things, like making slime, etc. There are also small businesses that sell delicious snacks and food, contribute to the festival, and help fundraise for the school. If you’re wondering, what is the purpose of Frosty Fest, and how does it help our school? I did have the opportunity to speak to our Student Council Advisor Ms. Mauritz and ask her some questions about Frosty Fest.
As we all know, it can be very stressful when it comes to having to host an event and do all the planning. “Sometimes planning can be very stressful since we are not sure whether materials might be delayed and not get here on time.” She said this can be a very stressful moment because Frosty Fest does help out our school with fundraising, as well as with other fundraisers like Canes, chipotle, or any other dance events that are known to be the biggest fundraisers to help out our school.
Although there can be ups and downs during the process of creating Frosty Fest, It is a very enjoyable experience to go to Frosty Fest. I did get to speak to Zoe Perez, one of my journalism classmates who is also a member of the student council, here at Agua Fria. This is Zoe’s first year as a member of the student council and has had such a great experience throughout the year. Zoe has always liked interacting and engaging with people and has always liked doing creative stuff. Student Council was a great opportunity for her hobbies and what she enjoys doing.
“My favorite part about doing events like these is always painting posters, to be honest, and just engaging knowing we plan for the whole school PLUS giving to the community by giving little kids & parents a wonderful experience,” she said.
Make sure to come celebrate our 6th year of Frosty Fest next year by experiencing the fun, creating lasting memories, and cherishing moments with friends!
