The Mesmerizing Success of ‘WandaVision’
March 5, 2021
If you are a huge Marvel fan, active on Twitter, or up to date with the latest TV shows then you must certainly have heard of the latest hit on Disney+. WandaVision! With an 8.2/10 rating on IMDb and a 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes it is certainly TV’s hottest new show.
The show takes place after the events of Avengers Endgame and deals with the Scarlet Witch, Wanda Maximoff, building her own reality with Vision and the consequences of her actions. The show includes many odes to decades of television ranging from the 1950s to the early 2000s.
It begins with lots of humor and fun dialogue between the two stars and gradually involves darker tones and references that are shocking and highly entertaining.
The overall response to the show has been overwhelmingly positive with many fans praising the classic sitcom references from ‘I Love Lucy’ to ‘Modern Family.’ AFHS junior Makayla Kennedy said, “It’s so creative with the whole tv set/different decades…especially with the whole town not being aware of anything and Vision being more wary of the setting”.
The show begins with a black and white color that progresses into full color as the “time” period changes since each episode has Wanda manipulating the environment to change it into the next decade.
When the series reveals that Wanda created her own mini-reality with a forcefield called “The Hex,” it leads to her being called a villain or the antagonist since she holds people in her reality with their minds seemingly wiped and unable to recall their past. However further along, it shows that Wanda is in deep distress and suffering after the death of Vision in Infinity War/Endgame that amidst her pain she decides to live the rest of her life with a reincarnation of Vision in her own paradise.
With “WandaVision” being the first piece of Marvel’s Phase 4, it is incredibly exciting to see where the events of the show fit into place with the timeline of the MCU and what it could lead to for future events. A future movie that is confirmed to have a direct connection to “WandaVision” is “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” with the lead actress Elizabeth Olsen actually being listed in the cast for the movie.
Kennedy said, “I think this’ll lead into Doctor Strange (with) Evan Peters’ Quicksilver opening the door to X-Men and some hints to the Fantastic Four movies.”
This is interesting as there are many fan theories circulating the internet and with Marvel throwing in new characters unexpectedly it adds much confusion and speculation to what could really happen.
As you can see, “WandaVision” has done much to please casual viewers and comic fanatics alike. With its fascinating set designs, intriguing storyline, and the enchanting chemistry between Eilzabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, this show marked a fire beginning to a new era of Marvel entertainment.
The final episode of the miniseries airs this Friday, March 5 with much excitement to the world. Don’t forget to watch!
