Winter Percussions Path To Greatness

On November 20, 2023, The winter percussion held their first audition in the band room. Although many students who had never been a part of the percussion ensemble never did this, they were first taught the basics of how percussion instruments should be played. Now of course there is a limited number of spots in the ensemble. So not everyone will be able to join but so far all the students that came to auditions were giving it their all listening to all the comments staff would give them to help them improve their skills along the way. Soon with the staff noticing their potential more time went on.

Now on November 27, 2023, The staff decided to go with a different approach for the first half with the battery, in which all the drums including cymbals went into a different room to work on their marching and to see the acting skills of the students. The reason staff had to see that acting skills were because now that winter season is around the corner there’s a difference between the fall season and winter season because in fall the band performs on a football field including the percussion ensemble but with winds like Clarinet, Trombone, Saxophone etc.

Although with indoor percussion the band performs indoors in a gym and hopefully for halftime basketball games. It also includes only the percussion ensemble; there are no winds at all when it comes to winter percussion. Now continuing the separation between the ensemble, the front ensemble, the people in the front with the board instruments can’t march so their main focus is working on music making sure they have everything right, etc. Now with both groups working hard they are even more focused on everything because every student there all applied changes quickly and efficiently showing improvement very quickly exactly what the staff had been hoping for from the students that would soon be a part of the ensemble.

Furthermore, on November 30, 2023, it’s the final audition day where everything counts to determine your placement in the ensemble with the start of the final audition day both sections being separated the battery finish up their choreograph in the old gym. Soon the Front ensemble walked in and saw what they had been working on the past few auditions with the choreography being performed excellently throughout the students. But once the choreography was over it was time to play some notes on their instruments to see the final results of these students. So furthermore the staff is looking forward to the 2023 – 2024 season.

Now I would like to say this percussion ensemble’s front point of view seemed so confident with all of them being in complete unison making it sound all as one. Further notice they were all efficient, compliant to the comments they were getting from staff, and dedicated. Now that is all the information I can give so far without leaking anything but you all will see our percussion ensemble and the show they will perform soon. Hope you all see it once it’s revealed.
