As the school year comes to a close, a group of special seniors gets to be released into a new chapter of their lives. These young adults get to experience a life where they guide their path and embark on experiences of a lifetime. Sofia Soto is part of the class of 2024 leaving and graduating from Agua Fria later in May. She is a bright spirit here on campus making her name known in the many clubs, sports, and organizations she is involved in. Sofia’s journey through high school has been marked by her dedication, passion, and sociable nature which has made their mark on peers and teachers alike.
Sofia Soto has been an example for many, showing what it is like to be involved in the high school experience. Participating in over 10 clubs and sports, Sofia showcases her resilience in balancing these extracurriculars along with the academic rigor of her classes. Whether it’s in sports or the classroom, Sofia is a determined and committed student.
Sofia is a 4-year Varsity athlete in both Badminton and Softball consistently demonstrating her great level of skill. Mr. Martin, Sofia’s Badminton coach, said “She showed great leadership over the years as one of my captains and was always someone I could count on”. Sofia, along with other teammates made it to state this year, and her doubles partner, Jenielle, was able to beat the #4-seeded team. Additionally, Sofia made a tremendous impact on her Softball team and was awarded the second-team position all-region award her Senior year.
Ms. Rams is another teacher here at Agua Fria who had the pleasure of having Sofia as a student. Rams first got to know Sofia through the Student Council where she says, “I got to know how hard-working and caring Sofia is”. Sofia’s presence in the classroom is described as lively and energetic, showcasing her great communication skills to students and teachers alike.
Beyond the classroom and extracurriculars, Sofia loves to spend her time hanging out with friends whether it’s going to the gym, eating out, or simply enjoying each other’s company while talking or playing dominos. When she isn’t blessing them with her presence she is at home doing hobbies like building LEGOs, tackling puzzles, or diving into a good book.
As graduation day approaches Sofia looks forward to the next chapter of her life seeking to pursue a field
in public service through social work for children in school or the medical environment. She plans to attend Watts College at Arizona State University. Overall, Sofia is sure to make a lasting impact wherever her path may lead her.
Sofia would like to say to those in or entering high school to “Get involved. I promise you, you won’t regret it. I think the fear of embarrassment or failure is truly one of the most hindering aspects of life. You only live once and there is no better opportunity to get to know yourself than in high school.”
As Sofia Soto steps into her future, she leaves behind a great influence on her school community. Congratulations Sofia, on a journey well traveled and a future filled with adventure. The world awaits what’s to come next.
