The Oakland A’s. A team with a rich history “Rooted in Oakland” since 1968. The A’s played their final home game in Oakland on September 26th, 2024 against the Texas Rangers. The A’s moved to Oakland from Philadelphia in 1968 and have been committed to the city of Oakland ever since. Until breaking news came out that the A’s were looking for an alternative place to play for the 2025-2028 season until they get their new stadium built in Las Vegas.
The A’s fan base has been heartbroken ever since hearing the news and wanted to do anything to stop this from happening because they didn’t want their final professional sports team to leave the city they all loved. The A’s have won many World Series championships in the Colosseum and have lots of rich history built in that building. Fans especially are mad at their owner because they believe he did this all on purpose by not putting any real competitive talent on the field causing them to not want to support the team. Jon Fisher uses this opportunity to show the team had nothing left in Oakland and that they need to finally take their ties with Oakland and uproot them.
The fanbase had so much pushback holding rallies during the games and pouring the utmost support into the team hoping something changed. Nothing happened and when the A’s played their final game fans were filled with so much emotion and were caught collecting dirt from the field being given to them by grounds crew members. So many fans supported this team to the end and now that it’s over it almost feels surreal. Oakland will forever be known as home to the A’s but it will no longer look like it.
