Before we go and rant about the rights and wrongs of Hillary Clinton’s political views, we’ll just give you a brief introduction about her personal life. I mean, she is the wife of former president Bill Clinton. She’s pretty important in the world of politics.
Clinton is from Chicago, Illinois and lives in Chappaqua, New York. She is married to Bill Clinton and they together have one daughter. Clinton became the First Lady of Arkansas, then eventually the First Lady of the United States. She served as the U.S. Secretary of State under President Barack Obama from 2009 to 2013, and as of April 12th, 2015, she’s running for president.
Here’s something that a lot of you probably don’t know: Hillary Clinton wasn’t always a Democrat (gasp). It was mentioned that before 1968, she was a member of the Republican party, then transferred her views over to the Democratic party.
Miranda’s Opinion
I’ll start on Clinton’s education views, as they’re the ones that give me mixed feelings about her. Don’t get me wrong, I agree with most of her views on certain topics but I don’t feel like she will live up to them.
Clinton believes the Bible should be taught in schools as a subject in history and literature, not as religion. While this is a very irrelevant detail when it comes to her actual campaign, I disagree with it. And this isn’t just because I’m an atheist, it’s because of the separation of church and state. Anybody who has worked in government should be aware of this law. She has every right to have any religion she wants but she shouldn’t be shoving it down people’s throats (pardon my aggressiveness).
Other than that minor detail, I feel that she will make a great president. Her views and stances are ones I agree with and despite that sketchy email scandal about Benghazi (my fellow correspondent Alan will go into further detail about that), Clinton is trusted to be the next president of the United States. Well, next to Bernie Sanders, of course.
Alan’s Opinion
Oh, Hillary. I have very mixed feelings about her. I can see both sides as to why people like her and don’t like her. She has so much history behind her, I personally don’t know if I could trust her. Her email situation is something that wouldn’t make me want to have her for president. If you don’t know, her email scandal was that she used her personal email while she was Secretary of State of the United States instead of using one provided by the state department that could be monitored.
Also, during her term, the attack at the U.S. embassy in Benghazi happened (which is another completely different thing). Critics say she could have probably withheld information from the government that could be crucial as to why it happened.
However, what she stands for is something that I do admire. She is a strong supporter for women’s rights and for many other topics. Hillary would like to eliminate the pay gap between men and woman and that is something that I fully support. She is for a lot of things that Democrats are for.
But, I am not in full support of her campaign like other candidates *cough*Bernie Sanders*cough*.
Only time will tell.
