“You Probably Haven’t Seen This…” Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Movie Review

When people usually think of Jim Carrey, they think of goofy funny Jim Carrey. But who can’t? He’s been known for movies such as Dumb and Dumber, The Mask, Ace Ventura, and many more. But, sometimes he will try something different.

eternal_sunshine_of_the_spotless_mind_ver3In 2004, he starred in a drama called Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind with actress Kate Winslet and was directed by Michel Gondry. A short explanation for this plot is it’s about Jim Carrey’s character (Joel) and Kate Winslet’s character (Clementine) trying to erase their memories of each other after their relationship falls apart. That’s all I’m going to say about the plot, but I’ll get to that later.

To start things, this movie is R rated for a reason. Not because of hardcore violence or sex but more adult problems and situations. There is some implied sex in it, but it doesn’t show much. The characters (for the most part) act like normal people. They act like individuals. They curse, they act goofy, they lie and they get angry. The reasons they do are justified most of the time.

This is a movie that’s not for everyone. It’s not a movie that hands everything to the watcher, they have to connect things together for themselves. This is also a slower paced movie.

Eternal Sunshine is a fantastic movie. At first, I wasn’t sure about the movie. The characters acted sort of goofy and awkward. However over time I got used to the tone. Things got better after a while. One of the great things in this movie is the cinematography. It has some trippy and imaginative shots and scenes that look great and are really inspired.

Also the actors do great. All the actors do great even though sometimes the characters could act weird (half of the time being a good thing, half of the time being a bad thing). But like I said before, everything keeps on getting better throughout the movie.

While Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet are the main characters, there are some other big actors in here. You got actors such as Mark Ruffalo, Kirsten Dunst, Elijah Wood, and a few others playing the side characters. They have great moments, and they are great actors, but it mostly centers around Joel and Clementine’s relationship, which is interesting and well done. I won’t specifically say why because it’s a massive spoiler for the movie.

Not only is this a great movie, but if you have Netflix you can find it on there. It’s a fantastic movie that always has you thinking and wondering about certain things. Also, it’s great to look at during certain scenes. Go into it not knowing much, because that will make the experience a lot better. I highly recommend it.
