Meet our multimedia journalist Sarah Loya

Sarah

Hi my name is Sarah Loya. I was born on September 9, 2000, in Fullerton, Calif. but moved to Avondale, Ariz., two months before I turned four. Growing up I was very close to my mother, who gives me motivation to go and chase my dreams and be happy. Everyone motivates me in my family, but no one is as passionate as my mother is about it. When I was going into kindergarten I was advanced in both reading and writing so while everyone was reading at their pace I was reading a level ahead of my classmates. Writing also came naturally for me since I have a very large imagination. My whole life, everyone always saw me as the girl who plays sports and nothing else, but secretly I filled notebook upon notebook with my stories. Turning 11 was when I started to think about what I wanted to do when I was older. I would try to think about every possible career, but becoming a journalist just kept reappearing, so I went with that choice. I haven’t gotten the chance to try it out yet because I was very involved in my middle school’s softball team for all three years. So I waited until I had an opportunity to start, which is this year. Since I am in my Sophomore year I plan on taking on journalism until I graduate because I am very committed to this class. I can see us making journalism grow as the years go on and I’m very excited to see it happen.
