Beauty in a Suit

By: Alexia Austin

Some people admit it but some people don’t, but in the back of our minds we all think it….do I look fat? Do I look skinny? Is this okay?

Do you ever have that one bathing suit that you see on an Instagram ad or while flipping through your snap stories that you want to buy, but at the same time don’t want to go on the website because your not comfortable enough in your own body?

As a young girl, I’ve always been self-conscious to wear a 2-piece bathing suit because I am heavier set and I always thought that when people look at me they’re going to laugh or look at me disgusted because I’m a bigger person. This summer I finally coming out of my comfort zone I bought a bathing suit that is a 2 piece and I love it.

Remember you are a beautiful person and it may not feel right when you first buy a bathing suit that you thought you would never wear. But look in the mirror one more time: the color brings out your eyes or it brings out skin tone.

I know it’s hard to think about how cute something looks on you when you don’t have confidence in yourself, but just know you’ll get through it and start to become more confident.

Now, it’s not going to happen overnight and it probably won’t happen in a month kind of depending on you and how self-conscious you are or how strongly you are to showing your amazing body off. Do you ever buy that super cute bathing suit and put it on and decide to change it before you leave the house? Maybe because your not comfortable to wear it in public or you feel like it doesn’t look right.

As an article in Self states, “Many of us understand that beauty comes from within, but that doesn’t always make it easier to throw on a swimsuit, go out in public, and enjoy ourselves without giving it a second thought.”

But….STOP thinking what others say matters when it comes to yourself and something you’re wearing. Their opinion doesn’t matter. You need to feel comfortable in your own skin because you only get one body and yes, you can change but it’s one skin…one you.  Love and Live in your body. “I promise life’s more enjoyable when your not sucking in… relax,” states the Self article. Because you know if you’re always worried about what you look like you never have any time for fun.

Just remember, you are beautiful. Don’t care what other people think because no matter what people think, your opinion is what matters. Show off that new bathing suit or even an old one and be confident, be happy, an be you. YOU …. ARE …. AMAZING.
