What To Expect In 2021

The year 2020 was definitely one for the books, but what can we expect for 2021? A Covid vaccine? TikTok takeovers? Or the zombie apocalypse?

Whether you are going into the new year with an optimistic mindset or not, 2021 can not be worse than 2020. This year we endorsed unimaginable battles and a global pandemic took over our lives.

Over the course of the pandemic, one of the biggest questions has been about the Covid-19 vaccine. Whether you’ve had the big one-niner or not, there is no doubt that the vaccine has come across your mind.

According to the CDC, the vaccine has been in the works for months. The effort has been called “Operation Warp Speed,” a cooperative effort with the Department of Health and Human Services. The vaccine is subject to be released this December and hopefully available to the general public by May.

With Covid potentially welcoming in 2021, it leaves a lot of factors for other things to happen.

The man, myth and legend Bill Gates also has some predictions for the new year. He believed that the toughest climate change will not be from cars, but buildings. According to an interview with INC News, Gates believes that manufacturing cement and steel is going to be our biggest problem, ¨We don’t have a way of making cement that doesn’t involve substantial emissions,” Gates said.

Gates believed the only solution to this issue is technology. “Without innovation, there’s no way,” he said. “Fortunately, innovation —although it’s hard to predict — across about 10 different areas, if we have those innovations, we can do very well.”

Although Covid and climate change are scary, Gates also predicts that it is going to get better in 2021. “Overall, the basic framework is that life is getting better,” Gates said. “Slowly but surely, we were recognizing how we treat minorities, how we treat women. Slowly but surely, we’re reducing cancer, death, [and] beginning to understand things like diabetes and Alzheimer’s.¨

Gates surely does have some hope going into the new year and well, I trust his judgment.

As for the media world, I think we can expect an uprising. With most schools being online and Gen Z having a strange obsession with TikTok, the social media world is just getting stronger.

People have been using technology in outstanding ways: to teach and share ideas, to build buildings, to turn the lights off in your kitchen, and to even print in 3D.

Who knows what’s yet to come for 2021. There is an endless number of possibilities but all we can do is hope for the best!
