Meet Amarri Reclosado! She is a 17-year-old junior at Agua Fria currently writing for the news section for OwlFeed. Here’s a deeper dive into Amarri’s life.

Amarri has been at Agua Fria for three years. One of her favorite memories during her time on campus is volunteering at the library.

“It wasn’t for long because Covid happened pretty quick but for the short time it was pretty fun,” she said.

When asked about her post-high school plans, she said she wants to go to a community college close to home to avoid the long drive. She wants to go to a college that offers programs in teaching and writing or simply some subjects she’s interested in.  She said she’s most looking forward to getting a job after high school, hopefully at Barnes & Noble.

She said writing is her passion, so journalism is a great fit for her. She heard about the class from her sister. When asked why she took it, she said, “I thought it was a really cool class and I wanted to see how it worked.” Some of her stories range from virtual learning to the tragedy that is Covid-19.

Outside of journalism Amarri greatly enjoys writing stories of her own and she loves reading. Her favorite genre to read is fantasy, with her favorite book being “All This Time” written by Mikki Daughtry and Rachel Lippincott. Her favorite genre to write is fantasy, but she also likes to write about real things happening in the world, which explains why news articles are a great fit for her!

At home, Amarri is the oldest of three, with two younger sisters. Along with that she has a chihuahua named Gizmo. One of the biggest influences in her life is her mom.

“I love how she never gives up and she always puts us first instead of her,” Amarri said.

Another influence of hers is the late Selena, the famous singer.

“I love how she was a Mexican singer who put her singing into a talent for others to enjoy,” she said.

From the short time I got to chat with Amarri, I can already tell she is a sweet and caring soul. She is truly passionate about writing and I cannot wait to work with her and read more of her articles. Let’s see what great stories she can bring to OwlFeed this semester!
