Midnights is currently the most coveted album for all Taylor Swift fans. The heroine surprisingly announced her album on August 28th at the VMAs, while she accepted one of her many well deserved awards. The album will be released on October 21st at midnight. So, this album was somewhat of a gift to her fans for giving her the award. This particular album is the first album of all-new material since the release of her album “Evermore” at the end of 2020. In between these projects she has also been releasing the “Taylor’s Versions” of her albums “Red” and “Fearless”. Following Folklore, Evermore was the star’s second album of 2020.

Just like these two albums, Midnight was a surprise, and it sure has sent Swifties into a rage. American Singer, Jack Antonoff who worked with Swift on Folklore, 1989, Reputation, Lover, and Evermore, also worked on Midnights. Through a show on Tik Tok by the name of “Midnight Mayhems With Me”, she has slowly been releasing each album name. By using a Bingo Wheel she has been publicizing each track at random. 13 being Taylor’s lucky number, the album of course has to have 13 tracks. The cover art for this album is quite ravaging, as it features Swift with her hair down, rocking sparkly blue eyeshadow, winged black eyeliner, and pink lipstick. She is looking down at a blurry lighter, and the Midnight title is written in gradients of blue over a white background.

The album also appears to be split into “Side A” and “Side B” with each track listed below one or the other. Midnights is available for preorder in cassettes, vinyls, CDs, and digital versions. Swift has already told her fans that she will be releasing several other special editions of Midnights with different covers. The star describes this album as “the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout (her) life”. One specific album by the name of “Karma”, has caught the attention of many fans. Followers have been speculating that this specific track may be regarding her Kanye West and Kim Kardashian feud in 2016.

Another track that everyone is anxiously awaiting is “Snow on the Beach”, which has everyone riled up due to the fact Lana Del Rey is featured in it. Midnights is described to be the star’s most vulnerable, heartfelt, intimate album yet. And, if you are familiar with any of her work, then you know this is saying a lot. One thing we all know for sure is that this album is going to be an emotional rollercoaster. Swift posted a short description of the album on her Instagram. “We lie awake in love and fear, in turmoil and in tears,” she wrote about the album in a two paragraph promotional post, where she sits solemnly in a dimmed room. “We stare at walls and drink until they speak back. We twist in our self-made cages and pray that we aren’t – right this minute – about to make some fateful life altering mistake. This is a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams,” she continued. “The floors we pace and the demons we face. For all of us who have tossed and turned and decided to keep the lanterns lit and go searching – hoping that just maybe when the clock strikes twelve … we’ll meet ourselves.”

The Tracks

1: “Lavender Haze”

In an Instagram video, Swift reveals that this album is inspired by two things: Her romance with Joe Alwyn and the movie Mad Men. “I happened upon the phrase ‘Lavender Haze’ when I was watching Mad Men, and I looked it up because I thought it sounded cool. And it turns out that it’s a common phrase used in the ‘50s, where they would just describe being in love,” she noted. “If you were in the lavender haze, then that meant that you were in that all-encompassing love glow, and I thought that was really beautiful.” Swift says how she believes this phrase relates to her life, noting that this specific song is about doing whatever it takes to stay in that “Lavender Haze” phase. “I think a lot of people have to deal with this now, not just like ‘public figures,’ because we live in the era of social media. And if the world finds out that you’re in love with somebody, they’re gonna weigh in on it,” she said. “Like for my relationship for six years, we’ve had to dodge weird rumors, tabloid stuff, and we just ignore it. And so this song is sort of about the act of ignoring that stuff to protect the real stuff.” In her album “Lover,” she also used “haze” as a metaphor for her love for Alwyn, where she sings the phrase “dazzling haze”.

2: “Metaphor”

No information has been released.

3: “Anti-Hero”

In another Instagram Reel, Swift shares how this specific track is one of her favorite songs she ever wrote. She believes this one is very intimate and real, it’s closest to her than any other song she has written. “I really don’t think I’ve delved this far into my insecurities in this detail before. You know, I struggle a lot with the idea that my life has become unmanageably sized, and that I, you know … not to sound too dark, but, like, I struggle with the idea of not feeling like a person,” she confessed. She then quickly added, “But don’t feel bad for me. You don’t need to.” She continued on and said, “This song is a real guided tour throughout all the things I tend to hate about myself. We all hate things about ourselves, and it’s all of those aspects of the things we dislike and like about ourselves that we have to come to terms with if we’re going to be this person. So, yeah, I like ‘Anti-Hero’ a lot because I think it’s really honest.”

4: “Snow on the Beach” Feat. Lana Del Rey

Not much has been released yet. However, Taylor did make a post raving about how much she loves Lana, and how grateful she is to be able to collaborate with her.

Taylor’s #5 tracks are always the biggest deal on her albums, and the expectations for this #5 definitely doesn’t falter.

There are many other of her little easter eggs spread around this specific track, however this is the main thing fans have been raving about.
